It takes a village to raise a child: our community will be a healthy safe and happy village where self-respecting individuals have respect for others, where people care for their own families as well as their fellow members, and adults take responsibility for their own children as well as all the children of the village.

Life Saver Project Quit Smoking Strategy

Cape York Partnerships will be involved in the implementation of an upcoming strategy to combat smoking in communities.

Life Saver aims to prevent 12–18 year olds from taking up smoking through incentives, prevent prospective mothers from taking up smoking and support pregnant women to quit and build social norms against smoking.

Objectives

  • Prevent 12–18 year olds from taking up smoking through incentives
  • Prevent prospective mothers from taking up smoking and support pregnant women to quit or abstain
  • Stop smokers from affecting the health of children and other people
  • Support all smokers to think about quitting, to then attempting to quit, and then to successfully quitting
  • Build social norms against smoking
This strategy will be designed, developed and delivered by Cape York Partnerships in partnership with Cape York Institute and Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health.
