It takes a village to raise a child: our community will be a healthy safe and happy village where self-respecting individuals have respect for others, where people care for their own families as well as their fellow members, and adults take responsibility for their own children as well as all the children of the village.

Community Action Fund

The Community Action Fund provides independent financial support to individuals and groups to develop and implement ideas for activities and supports one-off events, which benefit the whole community.

Community Participation and Support

The Community Action Fund represents an opportunity to support individuals and groups to take personal responsibility and demonstrate initiative.

The Community Action Fund aims to promote volunteering and participation in community projects and activities and contribute to building positive community norms such as:

  • Taking personal responsibility
  • Developing positive and supportive relationships
  • Promoting healthy living

Utilising the Community Action Fund

A recent example of how one community has used the Community Action Fund includes the Coen Dance Group.

Meeting the eligibility criteria for the Community Action Fund, this group raised funds for their costume and transport requirements to perform at the Laura Dance Festival in June 2009.

The dance group took responsibility and demonstrated initiative in saving money to put towards the costs to send over 70 community members to Laura to perform at the dance festival.

In raising funds for their performance costumes, the community members received a co-contribution from Communiy Action Fund, which assisted in meeting some of the costs of their transport to attend the festival.

This initiative is designed, developed and delivered by the Queensland Government and the Australian Government.
